Campaign for Disability Employment and Best Buy Honor Blake Watson, Winner of the What Can YOU Do? Video Contest

Today, The Campaign for Disability Employment and Best Buy honored the winner of the What Can YOU Do? Video Contest during a Best Buy in-store event in Flowood, MS. The national video competition, which attracted more than 130 videos promoting the talent and skills that people with disabilities bring to America’s workplaces, was won by Mississippi native Blake Watson. During the event, Mr. Watson was honored with a $1,500.00 gift card from Best Buy. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has voted to approve a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to conform its ADA regulations to the Amendments Act of 2008. The NPRM was just published in the Federal Register on September 23, 2009. Leading disability organizations launch national campaign for disability employment
during the U.S. Business Leadership Network’s (USBLN) Annual Conference and National Career Fair. Several leading disability organizations launched the Campaign for Disability Employment, a new collaborative effort to promote positive employment outcomes for people with disabilities. Announcement of the nationwide campaign – built around the theme “What Can YOU Do?” – came during the conference’s keynote speech by Robert David Hall, actor and disability rights advocate. Best Buy and the Campaign for Disability Employment, a newly-formed collaborative of leading disability organizations, announced the winner of the What Can YOU Do? Video Contest. JAN announces Federal Employer Winter Webcast Series - 2009/2010 (9/01/09).
JAN will be providing three 1.5 hour Webcast sessions to begin the first week of December 2009. The three part series will cover the hiring and employment of people with disabilities in the Federal government and the reasonable accommodation process. JAN welcomes guest speakers from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Office of Personnel Management, DoD's Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program, and the USDA TARGET Center.
