Dr.
Suzanne Gosden Kitchen is a Senior Consultant for the Job Accommodation
Network (JAN), a service of the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of
Disability and Employment Policy. As a Senior Consultant, Dr. Kitchen
handles both ADA and accommodation cases, specializing in providing
accommodation solutions for workers with cognitive and neurological
impairments. Her areas of expertise include: Learning Disabilities,
Attention Deficit Disorders, Asperger Syndrome and Autism, Epilepsy,
and Mental Retardation.
Dr. Kitchen graduated from
West Virginia University with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education
and a Doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration. She participates
in social and community development, serving on the Board of Directors
for the Mountaineer Boys and Girls Club and the Steering Committee
for the Community Coalition for Social Justice, providing leadership
for the Council for Women's Concerns, and coordinating activities
and fundraisers for various college student groups.
Dr. Kitchen began her professional
career as a Special Education teacher in Virginia and has long been
an advocate for students with special needs. In addition to her duties
at JAN, Dr. Kitchen teaches in graduate school for West Virginia University's
Industrial Relations department, preparing American and International
students to become leaders in contemporary human resource fields.
Her areas of expertise include EEO, affirmative action, staffing and
selection, diversity in the workplace, and business ethics.
Currently, Dr. Kitchen
designs disability awareness activities to educate the public, and
enjoys finding new ways to promote disability etiquette in society.
She regularly grants interviews to the press and notable organizations
that highlight JAN services, such as the One Percent Coalition, About.com,
LRP Publications, the American Society for Training and Development,
Monster.com, and SHRM.
