Session Title: US BLN Best Employer Practices - Walgreens Quest for Inclusion Speaker: Walgreens' Deb Russell
Session Description:
To celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the JAN/US BLN Webinar series features the Walgreen Company's commitment to hiring people with disabilities. The Walgreen Company is the nation’s largest drugstore chain and the 7th largest retailer. The Walgreen Company embarked on 4 years of planning to launch an effort to create a workplace where at least one third of the workforce would be people with disabilities in highly competitive jobs integrated in the workplace, earning the same pay and held to the same standards. Walgreen's success story will be presented by Deb Russell who oversees the company’s commitment to hiring people with disabilities in their latest and all future distribution centers. The first of these centers opened in January 2007. Ms. Russell has advised and monitored the efforts in order to disseminate lessons that are learned. This presentation explains the plans and early outcomes of this effort and includes our lessons learned. Our goal is to apply these lessons across our company and then to offer them to other companies who are interested in doing this as well.
